âPlease donât expel me,â Cyan blurted out the moment I closed my office door.
âYou donât want to go to jail, what a surprise.â I crossed my arms over my chest and regarded her thoughtfully.
Her skin was paler than usual, her chest rising with quickened breaths. Despite yesterdayâs op, she was as anxious around me as sheâd been after the pit. More so, given the current circumstances.
I was no more at ease than she was. The space wasnât large, and Cyanâs scent set me on edge. Betas tended to smell metallic to alphas, but her scent had a sweetness to it that was unexpected.
Iâd expected my pull toward the rebellious little beta to have cooled since I first met her, but when she was nervous, it made me want to pull her close and make everything alright. I forced myself to take a step back.
âI want to be here now,â Cyan managed. âI want to learn.â
My heart jumped, but my voice came out cold when I asked, âAnd when did this miraculous course reversal take place?â
âYesterday. At the op.â She bit her lip, which I hated because it made my cock twitch. âI saw that I can make an impact.â
God, she was saying what I wanted to hear. And I didnât trust myself. âWhat if I were to take the detention center off the table? I could give you a clean exit. It would be as if youâd never met me that day.â
She froze and stared at me. âWhat do you mean?â
âYou heard me.â
âI mean, why? Why would you make me an offer like that?â
Because you did too well on yesterdayâs op. Because you call to us too much. Because I need to know the raw truth. âIt was my pack who lured you into trouble. In light of that, making you choose between punishment and jail feels coercive.â
âThey didnât lure me into anything,â said Cyan. âI dragged them into it.â
A little beta, who was afraid of me even during a normal day, was still defending two SEALs who could break her in half. Khyler was right. But this would have been so much easier if sheâd folded.
âSo what do you think should happen?â I was an asshole for asking that, but the girl had fucked up. And frankly, these little running sprees were getting old.
âWhat is administrative punishment?â Cyan asked.
âA lashing.â I held her gaze levelly.
Cyan blanched.
âWe use a longer version of a tawse,â I continued. âIf applied with enough force, it sometimes breaks skin.â
âDonât.â She closed the distance between us in two steps. âYou canâtââ
âI can.â I raised a brow. âHave you changed your mind about wanting to stay here?â
Cyanâs chin rose, her eyes flashing with that fire that lit up the room. âI was talking about Khyler. If you need to hurt someone over us going AWOL, hurt me. It was my fault anyway. Mine. Not anyone elseâs.â
It was all I could do to keep from reacting. She knew? Good god. Khyler, who was as talkative as a rock and fought against any help, told Cyan the truth about his capture.
